Bloomfield sets sights on TC Lee Cup and trainer’s premiership

Local trainer Shane Bloomfield will be in the hunt for multiple trophies at Narrandera on Saturday.

Starting a team of four runners, Bloomfield is a chance of winning the 2026 Narrandera Trainer’s Premiership, named after his late father and local racing legend Peter Bloomfield.

Shane Bloomfield currently sits third on the ladder with seven points, trailing Craig Weeding (10 points) and Darrell Burnet (9 points) heading into Saturday’s meeting — the last scheduled race day Narrandera will host this year.

Bloomfield has some nice chances, led by Sundrop in the TC Lee Memorial Cup (1400m).

The six-year-old Squamosa mare is a three-time winner and has started at Narrandera twice, recording a win and a second placing.

Sundrop stepped up in grade earlier this month, tackling a 1400m Benchmark 58 Handicap at Gundagai, where she finished third, beaten 1.11 lengths.

A poor barrier draw (gate 11) is a concern at Narrandera, but Brendan Ward has been entrusted with getting the job done.

Ward also rides Prince Of Love (gate 5) in the 1000m Benchmark 50 Handicap. The four-year-old Prince Of Caviar gelding won his maiden at Narrandera in June.

Ward and Bloomfield also combine with the relatively lightly raced Ebony Eyes (gate 7) in the 1000m Maiden Plate.

The five-year-old Ilovethiscity mare had just one start at Wagga in January before being spelled and returns at Narrandera on Saturday.

Bloomfield will also team up with jockey Carly Frater aboard what appears to be the stable’s best chance on the day.

Sensational Star has drawn gate 3 in the 1400m Maiden Handicap. Having had three starts for the stable, the five-year-old Tosen Stardom mare has recorded recent placings at Albury and Narrandera and looks well placed on her home track.

While many locals will be cheering on Bloomfield, Saturday’s meeting shapes as a competitive six-race program, with the first race scheduled to jump at 1.31pm.

The club will have its bar and canteen operating, along with a race day luncheon, coffee van, entertainment by Sameera Bashier, bookmakers and the TAB.
