The Craig Widdison Racing team was back in the winner’s circle at Albury on Tuesday, with Lunar Mojo triumphing in the 900m Maiden Handicap.
The stable’s first win of the 2025/26 season, it took a perfect ride by Pierre Boudvillain as Lunar Mojo ($2.10) announced himself with an impressive 2.2 length victory.
Following seven consecutive placings, including five successive runner-up finishes, Boudvillain rode the 4YO Reward For Effort gelding just in behind the early leaders before peeling wide on the turn.
Despite a heavy eight surface at Albury, which was later upgraded to a soft seven, Lunar Mojo ranged up to the leaders before demonstrating a good turn of foot when exploding to a comfortable victory.
A well-deserved result for Lunar Mojo and connections, Craig suggested to Country Punter the penny had finally dropped, with Lunar Mojo likely to have one more run before going to the paddock for a spell.
It was a good day’s racing at Albury, with Boudvillain, who is fresh off a career-best 74-win season in 2024/25, riding two on the program to take his current season tally to six.
Teaming up with Goulburn’s Danielle Seib, the pair enjoyed success as Parthenope ($2.20) won the 1000m Class One Handicap.
Another in-form jockey, Cory Parish, also rode an Albury double.
Riding for Wagga trainer Gary Covin, the 36-year-old won on the well-supported Party Boss ($2.50) in the 1175m Maiden Plate.
Then rounding out the program, Parish guided Victorian galloper Saventino ($8.30) to a popular win in the 1400m Class One Handicap for Stacey Kirkpatrick.
Other winners on the day were the Nick Olive-trained Iconique (Billy Owen, $6.60) in the 1600m Maiden Plate, the Gratz Vella-trained Region Time (Quayde Krogh, $10) in the 1500m Benchmark 58 Handicap, and the Andrew Bourke-trained Ditterich (James Innes Jnr, $9,90) in the 1000m Benchmark 66 Handicap.
Albury race again on Saturday, October 11, when hosting their Guineas Race Day.
