We’re back to Rosehill Gardens this week for a 1500m Class Two Highway Handicap, and Thunderbet‘s Johnny ‘Highway’ Patton believes he is on a good thing.
The rail is in the true position, and with a scorching week in Sydney, the track will remain a good four.
There isn’t much speed in the race, so this week, I have tipped horses who are drawn well and who will race up near the speed.
My first pick is Al Ash Lad ($5.50), which is one of two Matthew Dunn chances.
The five-year-old looks like the only leader in the race.
His last start was at Murwillumbah in a Class Two, which he ran a very good time when winning over 1550m.
The Northern Rivers visitor has drawn well this week, and the in-form Adam Hyeronimus jumps board.
He also goes down one kilo in weight, and if left alone, he might get away with it.
My second pick this week is Stormy Witness ($8).
I think the Danny Williams-trained galloper is over the odds.
Last time out, this horse won very well first-up at this track over 1400m. The 1500m will be no problem as it was a starter in the ATC Oaks in April over 2400m.
The barrier won’t be an issue as it will go forward and should land in a nice position.
It does go up four kilos in weight, which is a worry, but it’s a nice big horse and flies 2nd up.
My third pick is another Matthew Dunn horse in Desert Mist ($3.60).
It’s last start was at Murwillumbah in a Class Two behind my top pick Al Ash Lad.
It got too far back that day, but this week has drawn well, and Nash Rawiller goes on board.
It also goes down two kilos in weight, and I think it will race more forward this week, which should see it right in the finish.
The ‘Each Way Play’ this week is Master of Rewards ($20).
I think this horse is over the odds.
Trained by Jeremy Sylvester, this horse has had no luck at his last three starts and has drawn wide in those aces.
He has drawn gate one this time, Kathy O’Hara stays on board, and he appears to be a real big hope at the odds.
