Punters have found a Royal Randwick Highway this week that looks to be a slightly better betting prospect than usual (noting that usually, it’s almost impossible!).
Thunderbet’s Andrew Price believes there are a few horses in 1500m Class Three Handicap that have a class edge on the remainder of the field.
I’m very keen on Zouatica ($4.60) this week.
He is one of those up-and-coming, lightly-raced types that has a few lengths of class on most of this field.
The map looks absolutely perfect for this gelding on Saturday. He jumps from gate two and will go to the front in a race that looks on paper to lack speed.
There’s no question Barb Joseph will have him spot on for the city visit, and with any sort of mid-race breather, I’d expect Zouatica to be terribly hard to run down.
The $4.60 (in from $5) on offer is juicy.
Cliff House is another that is lightly raced and looks to have plenty of ability.
The win over the Wagga Cup carnival was very good in early May.
The gelding is now a month between runs but won an open trial nicely at Wagga on May 27.
Cliff House ($5.50) has an excellent trainer in Tim Donnelly, and is sure to present perfectly for the run.
Danny Beasley to ride is another tick, and I hope he goes forward from gate 10 and sits in the first four or five runners.
He is another that looks to benefit from the map and should be right in the finish.
One of the more consistent Highway runners is Chase My Crown ($9), and I’d expect it to be very competitive in this race.
This time, the trip looks ideal fourth run-in, and Brett Prebble steering from gate 8 couldn’t be much better.
She’s run some very good Highway grade races this prep and going back into last prep and definitely has the quality to win a race like this.
If there’s a knock, she hasn’t won for more than 600 days.
Last start, she was terrific behind a good horse in Sister Moon, and this might well be the race for Chase my Crown to break the drought.
The ‘Each Way Play’ this week is Amarantz ($11).
I liked her first-up, and I must stick with her after a first-up run beaten four lengths behind Demitasse, where she got a mile too far back out of her ground and was set an impossible task.
That run was very good, and I like the rider change coming in here.
Hopefully, Van Overmeire can position her back half without being right out the back.
You can also expect her to be spot on second up (second up winner last prep); obviously, Danielle Seib is a massive tick, and the 55.5kg also suits.
The risk is that she gets too far back again off what might be a casual tempo but with a race run to suit, she is a definite winning chance.
