Wodonga visitor Craig Widdison hopes Goulburn continues to be a happy hunting ground.
The Victorian trainer has started seven horses there, landing four winners at a 57.1% win rate.
On Friday, he travels north with two runners, including last-start winner Fourthtimelucky in the 1300m Benchmark 58 Handicap.
Racing at Corowa in a 1400m Benchmark 58 Handicap on May 19, Nick Souquet was in the saddle as the pair went to the front before holding on for a gutsy win.
Now five runs into his prep, the 3YO Prized Icon gelding, which races in the Kooringal Stud colours, is rock-hard fit and racing well.
Boosting their chances, Nick Souquet travels up for the ride, and connections have drawn reasonably with gate six.
On paper, Fourthtimelucky appears to be the value play at $7 in an open race, where the Peter Green-trained Killer Kerr (Louise Day) is the $5 favourite.
Widdison also has Outlaw Ned resuming in the 1500m Benchmark 58 Handicap.
The 7YO Wanted gelding hasn’t been seen since August but has trials at Corowa (900m) on May 7 and Wodonga (1200m) on May 26 under his belt.
Better suited over more ground, the 1500m trip first-up (6:0-1-3) shouldn’t be a worry, and with Souquet in the saddle, the Wodonga galloper, currently rated a $14 chance, will get every chance from gate 2.
The Goulburn eight-race card is a good program, with plenty of good betting markets.
The meeting commences early, with the first race jumping at 11.55am.
