Todd Howlett hopes there is some give in the Tamworth racecourse on Friday when Holy Tycoon contests the Tamworth City Toyota Tamworth Rush (1200m).

The five-year-old loves some cut out of the ground, with all four of her wins arriving on soft and heavy tracks, and Howlett remained hopeful despite Tamworth being rated a good four at the time of publishing.

“The only thing is the track,” Howlett said.

“The good four is the only query; she’d like a soft track; she definitely goes better the soft.”

The Written Tycoon mare is in good order ahead of Friday’s race, and two starts back, she finished second, beaten a quarter of a length by the Brett Bellamy-trained Boncassie in the $50,000 Daniel Baker Sprint at Coffs Harbour on August 4.

Last time out, she finished down the track in a tough little 1100m Benchmark 72 Handicap at Canterbury on August 16, and she will head to Tamworth nine days between runs.

“It’s definitely the right sort of race, and she’s really good,” Howlett said.

“I haven’t done a lot with her, but I’m happy with her.”

Connections draw nicely with gate two, and Darryl ‘Digger’ McLellan takes the ride.

When asked why McLellan was taking more and more rides for the yard, Howlett was to the point.

“He’s just rode a couple and rode them well, so we use him, and the owners like him,” Howlett said.

Howlett will team up with McLellan earlier in the program, with the veteran hoop jumping aboard Felicity’s Fault, which will jump from gate eight in the 1200m Maiden Handicap.

The three-year-old Extreme Choice filly has started three times and has shown enough in those starts to suggest she will be competitive in a race like this.

Stable apprentice Madeline Owen will also take a ride for the stable when hopping aboard Clemmie in the 1000m Maiden Plate.

The four-year-old had the one start, finishing down the track when on debut at Muswellbrook in April.

Following a 15-week spell, the Churchill mare has since trialled at Gosford, and whatever she does at Tamworth, she should improve on.
