Enigmatic galloper Indifference looked like he would be a very handy galloper early in his career.

The Kermadec gelding out of Insouciance (x Quest For Game) is very well-bred and racing in the Godolphin colours; he boulted in for a four-length maiden win over 1300m at Goulburn in May of last year before backing that effort up with an impressive provincial victory over 1400m at Newcastle.

James Cummings then tried him in town with little luck.

He showed signs of what he could do, finishing third over the 1500m trip at Rosehill Gardens and Moonee Valley late last year, but he didn’t live up to his earlier billing.

A stunning chestnut, Indifference, went through the Inglis Digital Sales in February and was sold for $25,000 before being transferred to Brett Cavanough’s stable.

Following a 37-week spell, he returned at Scone late last month, and first-up, he finished five lengths off Cripps Tonite in an 1100m Benchmark 74 Handicap,

Second-up, Cavanough sent the five-year-old to Armidale for the $35,000 Guyra Cup (1400m), and Indifference rediscovered his mojo, putting almost five lengths on the field when storming to victory.

“I never like worrying about the opposition too much, but he showed Melbourne form for Godolphin,” Cavanough said.

“They put him in the right races, and he never delivered for them, but we pulled all the gear off him and tried to get his confidence back.”

Commencing from gate one, Indifference was fast away, but the Scone galloper settled third on the rails as the Stephen Jones-trained Hit The Target (Mitch Stapleford, $8.50) ran the field along.

Per Cavanough’s instructions, jockey Luke Rolls gave the five-year-old some galloping room, and the pair peeled three wide turning for home.

From there, it was a one-act affair as Indifference ($4.60) defeated the Cassandra Stummer-trained Rebel’s Edge (Darryl McLellan, $12) in second and the Jane Clement-trained Seahaven (Braith Knock, $8) in third.

“We brought him here today, and Luke gave him the gun ride,” Cavanough said.

“I said, ‘I’d like to see you give him a bit of room’, and when he left me, I said, ‘Just go and ride him and see what lands in front of you’.

Cavanough was thankful for the opportunity to have Indifference in his stable.

“Joey Lau In Macau, thanks for giving me these couple of horses to train, and I’m sure there’ll be a couple more to come,” Cavanaugh said.

On a big day at Armidale, it was the Ben Looker show as the leading hoop landed three winners on the program.

Looker kicked off his treble when winning on the Jane Clement-trained Hombre Grande ($5.50) in the 1900m Benchmark 58 Handicap.

He then brought up a race-to-race double for Wauchope trainer Colt Prosser, winning on Hell Ofa Toughsun ($41) in the 1400m Maiden Handicap and Skates On ($9) in the 1300m Class One Handicap.
