It was a Bega Cup to remember for Barbara Joseph, Paul and Matt Jones, who trained the quinella of the $80,000 feature race.
Stable stalwarts Zouatica and Super Helpful, who boast a combined career earnings of almost $1.5 million, ran first and second in the 1600m event, ahead of race favourite Associate (Pierre Boudvillain), from the Danielle Seib yard.
Billy Owen was aboard Zouatica, and they drove to the front from the inside gate, and from there, made every post a winner to get home by 1.75 lengths.
Super Helpful, with Nick Heywood in the saddle, got a lovely sit on the rails behind the early leaders from gate two, and ran on well for second place.
The result means Zouatica has qualified for another $3 million Big Dance, with the 2024 Moruya Cup and 2025 National Sprint champion, now earning connections just shy of $470,000.
Super Helpful, an 11-time winner, has earned connections an incredible $991,085, winning the 2022 Snake Gully Cup, 2023 Canberra Community Chest, and 2024 Nowra Cup, while finishing third in the 2023 Big Dance.
As consistent as the day is long, the 7YO Super One gelding continues to perform for the Canberra stable.
The Joseph Jones racing team celebrated another strong Bega Cup carnival, leaving with three wins.
On the Saturday, Ain’t Seen Mars (Pierre Boudvillain, $2.05) won the Country Boosted 1600m Maiden Plate before the stable brought up a winning double on Sunday.
Following their Bega Cup quinella, the team watched on as the impressive Remadosi (Pierre Boudvillain, $2) won well in the $50,000 Country Magic Benchmark 58 Handicap.
An exciting 4YO Reliable Man mare, Remadosi has now won three from 10, including back-to-back victories, and will likely be set for the upcoming Country Championships, with the South East Racing Association qualifier to be held at the Sapphire Coast on March 1.
