Tony and Calvin McEvoy will start up-and-comer Simply Outrageous in the 1500m Benchmark 58 Handicap at Ballarat on Tuesday.
Fresh off a maiden win over the same distance at Ballarat on May 25, there is plenty to like about the 3YO daughter of Xtravagant.
On debut at Ararat on May 10, Jake Duffy was in the saddle and the pair got back over the 1300m trip before rattling home for an eye-catching second.
Over more ground and on her home track, Simply Outrageous had Harry Coffey in the saddle. Despite racing three and four wide, the well-supported $1.90 favourite finished strongly for an impressive win.
Franking that form, runner-up Em Sixty raced during the Swan Hill carnival and won a 1600m Maiden Plate.
While having drawn the awkward alley (gate 16), it shouldn’t be a drama for Simply Outrageous at Ballarat, and the McEvoy camp has kept Coffey in the saddle.
It can be difficult stepping up from maiden company to a Benchmark event, but Simply Outrageous appears a cut above and a galloper that will progress through the grades nicely.
As always, it’s set to be another big day of racing at Ballarat, with the seven-race program jumping at 1.30pm.
