Rob Potter appears to have a very nice horse in his stable in the form of Midnight Moose, which remained unbeaten at Goulburn on Thursday.

Boasting two starts for two wins, the Canberra galloper started $2.80 on debut at Goulburn on January 27 and blew his rivals away in the 1100m Maiden Handicap, winning by more than two lengths.

Backing up at Goulburn on Thursday, Midnight Moose took on a good field of up-and-coming gallopers and was on the drift in the markets ($2.70 to $3.80) and despite being a little green, powered to a thrilling victory in the 1200m Class One Handicap.

“The good part is that I don’t think he knows what he is doing, but today he was better than last time,” Potter said after the victory.

“He was up in grade, and it was a struggle for him, but he’s going to get out further and once he learns what it is all about, he’ll be a nice horse.”

Owned and raced by former trainer Mick Miladinovic, the well-named 4YO Night Exemplar gelding out of Jhuldi is a half-brother to two-time winner Midnight Luna (x Panzer Division) and appears to boast some upside going forward.

“Who knows how far he will go?” Potter said.

“We’ll probably tip him out now and let him put on a bit of condition and think about things, but he’s a nice horse.”

Damon Budler, who’s been riding in terrific form since returning from injury, has partnered Midnight Moose to both victories, and he is excited to see him return as a more mature and developed galloper.

“He’s still a very green horse,” Budler said.

“He’s got himself into all sorts early on, but what I really like about him is that he never gives up, and he just keeps on coming.

“Hopefully, he goes to the paddock now. I think you’ll see a better horse next time in.”

Potter and Budler will look to continue their winning ways, with a myriad of chances at Wagga on Monday and Queanbeyan on Tuesday.
