Miss Thatcher on target for Rosehill Highway

We’re back to Rosehill Gardens this week for a 1400m Class Two Highway Handicap.

Following a couple of nice days of weather before Saturday, the track is back to a good four, and Thunderbet‘s John Patton has shared his thoughts on which gallopers can help punters into the black.

The Rail Position for the day is +6m from 1500m to the winning post and +4m for the remainder of the track.

Last week, I made the mistake of tipping around Matthew Dunn’s horses, thinking they would get caught deep in the running, which they did, but they ended up running the quinella.

Dunn now just seems to have a stranglehold on these races. However, I think this is another even race.

My on-top selection this week is the Tim Martin-trained Miss Thatcher ($7).

In racing, you always need to forgive a horse’s run, and Miss Thatcher’s last start run is a complete forgive.

This horse usually races up on the speed but had barrier 13 and was taken back, which is completely not her style.

This week sees a change of jockey in Adam Hyeronimus, who has won her before, and she has drawn barrier three and is down in class from its previous run.

I think she will be hard to beat. My only query is the 1400m, which she hasn’t yet been able to place in three starts.

A horse that won’t have any worries getting the trip and loves a good track is Nickelback ($12).

Ryan Maloney goes on board, and this galloper won its last start at Casino over 1400m.

The start before that, it ran a very competitive race in Brisbane.

Stephen Lee hardly comes to town, and this horse must be flying to make the long trip from Ballina.

I don’t want to eat my words again this week, so I’ve put Matthew Dunn-trained Take The Kitty ($3.60) in for third.

This horse hasn’t raced since late July and has been freshened up for this event.

Nash Rawiller goes on board and, from barrier one, will get the run of the race.

There’s plenty of speed in this race, which will suit it, and it will be winding up at the right time.

This week, the ‘Each Way Play’ is Snap Book $21 for the win and $5 for the place.

This horse seems over the odds to me.

Last preparation, it went super, and on Saturday, it has blinkers on for the first time.

Also, the only other time it ran second-up, it won.

The stable has made a massive riding change, with Kerrin McEvoy accepting the ride, and the distance is another big plus.

John Patton’s selections

1. Miss Thatcher $7.00

2. Nickelback $12.00

3. Take the Kitty $3.60
