Narrandera invests in assets and infrastructure ahead of new season

Narrandera Race Club’s new judging tower.

On the back of its most successful ever racing season, Narrandera Race Club have put money back into its facilities, making some crucial upgrades as the club gears up for their next meeting on Saturday, July 17.

The club will unveil a new judge’s/steward’s tower, with the development supported by RDF, making a massive difference for officials and providing a safe, dry area to conduct meetings.

The second project is a new toilet and associated amenities block near the betting ring and function centre, which is all undercover.

The government grant and club-funded development will ensure patrons enjoy a comfortable, dry day at the races during Narrandera’s winter race season.

Narrandera Race Club Racing Manager Michael Bailey explained that his committee wanted to create a race day experience that catered to everyone.

“As a race club, the whole product is really important, and we must provide good amenities for the participants, stewards and officials, and racegoers,” Bailey said.

“The judge’s box will cater for officials, and the most important people are our patrons, and with a fantastic new amenities block, they will have access to the betting ring without being outside, and we are hoping that will make our race days a lot more enjoyable.

“We’re well aware that we are a winter race cub, and it can get cold and windy, and this will make it more comfortable at the races, and hopefully, it means more people come for a great day out.”

Narrandera kicks off its season with its LW Peacock Memorial race day on June 17 before the Narrandera Cup headlines the club’s Big Dance qualifier meeting on July 16.

Finally, the three-meeting season ends on August 19, with Narrandera hosting its TC Lee Memorial Community Race Day.

“Our next meeting is a very special day for us each year, and with good solid sponsorship, we look forward to welcoming some trainers and their horses that might be preparing for Bid Dance Day,” Bailey said.

“It will be a good chance to test out our new facilities ahead of what should be a good season.”

In exciting news for the Riverina Club, the Narrandera Cup will be a Big Dance qualifier for the first time in 2023.

In good news for those looking to race there, Bailey believes the Narrandera racecourse is in good condition and ready for a big three meetings of Southern Districts racing.

“The track is in as good a condition as it’s ever been,” Bailey said.

“We’ve had rain come at the right time, and everything is pointed towards a successful race day and what should be a precursor for our cup day and a big season of racing.”
