There are good days, and there are red-letter days, and for Siena Grima, the talented apprentice enjoyed her best-ever day at the races on Sunday.

Suiting up at Coonabarabran, Grima had six rides, and incredibly, booted home five winners, including the three feature races on the Western Districts program.

Grima’s win on the Jeremy Gask-trained Who Ever Thought ($2.30) in the $75,000 Coonabarabran Cup (1600m) brought up her fifth win and added an exclamation mark to what was a career-defining performance.

It was a strong ride by Grima, who got everything out of the 7YO Panzer gelding that was gutsy when winning a thrilling photo-finish over the Brett & Georgie Cavanough-trained Rhythm Is A Dancer (Kody Nestor, $9).

Only an apprentice – indentured to Melanie O’Gorman in Tamworth – Grima kicked off her five-race winning run at Coonabarabran, emerging victorious on the Paul Clisby-trained Supreme Style ($1.30) in the $35,000 Country Boosted Maiden Plate (900m).

It was an impressive win by the 4YO Supido mare, who finished with a strong burst and won by the best part of two lengths.

The very next race, Grima was in the saddle for Sue Grills, winning on Somerton Smart ($3.50) in the $50,000 Super Maiden Handicap (1200m).

Another decisive win, the Tamworth galloper was a class above his rivals, with the 3YO Exeedance gelding winning by 3.22 lengths.

Holly Williams was the next to benefit from Grima’s incredible day at the races, with Enterprise Legend ($3.30) leading all the way when triumphing in the $35,000 Coonabarabran Sprint (1100m).

Grills and Grima then combined for their second victory in the Baradine Cup (1400m) as Night Fighter ($4.20) hugged the rails before saving ground and powering to an impressive victory.

The five-win effort means Grima is now 109 wins into her promising career – not a bad effort considering her first win arrived when making a daring Deepwater Debut in early 2024.
