Sprague continues good run with Port Macquarie double

John Sprague.

Port Macquarie trainer John Sprague continued his good run of results on his home track on Tuesday.

Waiting until the final two races on the seven-race program, Sprague finished with a flurry of victories.
Charmed Destiny ($9.50) kicked things off, winning by a length in the 1509m Benchmark 58 Handicap.
Apprentice Teighan Worsnop was in the saddle, and she timed her run to perfection as the 6YO Tamayuz gelding finished strongly for victory.

A race later, and Shae Wilkes was in the saddle when riding First Landing ($6) in the 1106m Class One Handicap.

Second-up for the stable following a win in the $60,000 Super Maiden Plate (900m) at Newcastle on June 7, the 4YO Deep Field gelding raced wide from gate 12 before finding a prominent position.

From there, First Landing exploded away for a 4.33 length victory, suggesting there is much more in store for connections.

It’s been a good run of results for Sprague and his stable, with Heir Apparent also winning at Port Macquarie on June 15 when taking out the $30,000 Wauchope Sprint (1008m).

In May, Aye Aye Skipper was also a winner in the 1205m Benchmark 58 Handicap at Grafton.

The Port Macquarie stable will look to continue its good run, with runners nominated at Coffs Harbour on Sunday, Taree on Monday, and Newcastle on Tuesday.
