With just nine days remaining in the 2024/25 season, Aaron Bullock has taken a big step toward another NSW jockey’s title.
Riding at Taree on Tuesday, Bullock booted home three winners, taking his season total to 119 – seven clear of the second-placed Braith Nock (112), and 13 clear of defending champion, Ash Morgan (106).
Taree has been a happy hunting ground for Bullock over the years, and of his 1079 career winners, 111 have arrived at Taree at a ridiculously efficient 22.3% win rate.
On another good day at Taree’s Manning Valley Race Club, Bullock kicked off his treble with a win for long-time boss, Kris Lees, getting the job done on Oakfield Pluto ($2) in the 1007m Maiden Handicap.
On debut, the 3YO Exceedance gelding was a class above his rivals, winning by 1.5 lengths.
Riding for Wyong trainer Wayne Seelin, Bullock was then legged aboard In Iso ($2.50) in the 2018m Class One/Maiden Plate.
After racing a touch better than midfield, Bullock was able to finish strongly on the 5YO Starspangledbanner gelding, as the pair powered to a length victory.
Then teaming up with Todd Howlett, who was Bullock’s first Master, the pair won with Christa ($6) in the 1412m Class Two Handicap.
Christa was impressive first-up after a year, holding off the short-priced favourite Show ‘Em Howl (Anna Roper) from the Robert Agnew stable.
Bullock, who won the NSW and Australian Jockeys’ Title in 2022/23 with an incredible 208 winners, just missed out in 2023/24, with his 137 victories falling to Ash Morgan (137.5) by half-a-win.
Still, the Tumut product has been a picture of consistency, enjoying 100-plus winning years in 2017/18, 2019/20, 2020/21, 2022/23, 2023/24, and 2024/25.
