Wayne Brown’s good run of results continued at Gunnedah on Monday, with the Tamworth trainer securing a winning double with Ronny Bee and Nipper Bee.
Ronny Bee (Jean Van Overmeire, $2.50) contested the opening event, the 1300m Maiden Plate, and it was a tough win for the three-year-old Justify colt.
Caught wide for the duration of the event, Ronny Bee still finished strongly, defeating the Troy O’Neile-trained Eaglescliffe (Jake Pracey-Holmes, $21) by threequarters-of-a-length, while in third and a length-and-a-half off the winner was the Lyle Chandler-trained Fun In Texas (Leeshelle Small, $3.20).
Later on the program, Brown brought up his winning double with Nipper Bee (Chelsea Hillier, $9.50) in the 1300m Class Two Handicap.
After racing on the heels of the early leaders, Hillier presented Nipper Bee after turning for home.
From there, the five-year-old Supido gelding was strong to the line, winning by a length-and-a-half from the Sue Grills-trained Crimson Bonnet (Jean Van Overmeire, $2.70) in second and three lengths ahead of the Jeremy Sylvester-trained Capitamy (Luke Rolls, $21) in third.
Brown’s stable has been in good form, and since late October, he’s had 50 starters for nine wins.
A treble at Inverell on November 23, where Heagney rode Everlasting Kiss, Nipper Bee, and Power Beau to victory, highlighted a good run for the team.
Power Beau, a four-year-old Brazen Beau gelding, has been particularly impressive, stringing together three consecutive wins.
After his success at Inverell on November 23, Heagney guided the Tamworth galloper to a three-length victory in the Class Two Handicap at Armidale on December 8 before a half-head win in the 1200m Class Three Handicap at Inverell on New Year’s Day.
Brown and Heagney team up again at Tamworth on Thursday, with the stable set to start Cascade Mountainin the 1400m Maiden Plate, Deep Rogue in the 1200m Benchmark 82 Handicap, and Subuki in the 1600m Benchmark 82 Handicap.
